About us

Meet the Team

Our team

This community means the world to us.

We love our patients (and their people!) and want to see them for more than just sick pet exams. We strongly believe in preventative medicine and nutrition to keep your pets well. Our highly trained and educated staff are always eager to talk about veterinary medicine, so drop by and say hello.

Pacific Grove Animal Hospital is a small, non-corporate, privately owned family practice. We are in a location with a long history as Peninsula Animal Hospital, established by Dr. Ted Hollister in 1959 and continued by Dr. William Cleary from 1991 to 2010. During its six-decade history as an animal hospital, it has provided veterinary care for all creatures belonging to three generations of Pacific Grove residents. Dr. Brynie Kaplan Dau is the new owner and carries on that long tradition of comprehensive and compassionate health care for animals.

We are proud to be a GOLD Certified Cat Friendly Practice through the FelineVMA, where Dr. Kaplan Dau is a long-term member, and to be accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). We are also USDA accredited for international and domestic health certificates.

Dr. Brynie Kaplan Dau

Brynie Kaplan Dau is a small animal and exotics veterinarian. She grew up in Pacific Grove and is happy to be back in her hometown, serving the community that she loves. Dr. Dau holds a Master’s degree from Moss Landing Marine Labs and California State University, Monterey Bay in marine science (invertebrate zoology and chemical oceanography), and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine (zoological medicine track). She has spent extensive time working with sea turtles in Greece and the Cayman Islands, marine fishes and invertebrates, as well as California wild seals and sea lions. However, she has never strayed from her childhood love of cats and dogs, and now works with exotic pets in addition to cats and dogs. Her main interests include feline medicine, soft tissue surgery, dermatology, behavior, dentistry, and ultrasound. In her spare time, she stays busy with her fourteen-year-old twins, Myles and Poppy, and her own menagerie—three cats named Elijah, Forest, and Skylar; a Merle pug named Pearl; and a leopard gecko named Coral.

Dr. Kaplan Dau strives to be part of a team with you to do what’s best for your beloved pet. She is committed to providing the highest quality care while working with you to manage your pet’s health as effectively as possible. She takes pride in clear communication to help determine the best treatment plan for both you and your pet. Dr. Kaplan Dau also collaborates regularly with specialists in cardiology, surgery, internal medicine, and ophthalmology to ensure comprehensive care.

“I’d like to express my gratitude to all the amazing clients who have welcomed me to Pacific Grove Animal Hospital! The amount of kindness you all have shown has been endearing. Thank you so much for your support!”
